The President & Founder…
Michael Gilcreast is a native of Akron, Ohio; born the fifth of ten children (seven sons & three daughters), Cleo Gilcreast (deceased) and Sister Emily Gilcreast (home-going). After graduating from Central-Hower High School, he joined the United States Air Force and successfully retired from the Pentagon, Washington D.C., in July 2004.
After living in and traveling to numerous places within and outside the United States, he relocated to Leesburg, Virginia. For many years, his passion was to become a physician so that he could help others.
It was in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, that he completed his education and attended Southern Illinois University, majoring in Health Care Management. He continued his studies and completed training as a Registered Medical Assistant, followed by the completion of an Associate Degree in Personnel Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management. Unknowingly, he was already established on the path from which God would lead him to do the work of the church.
In January 1996, he was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. He rededicated his life to Christ and received the precious gift of the Holy Spirit in 1997. While attending the True Apostolic Church (TAC), a church within the International Organization Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW), God opened his eyes and revealed to him his calling to the ministry. Elder James Plummer (Assistant Pastor) ordained him as a Deacon in March 1999. He faithfully served as a leader in several ministries, most noteworthy, as Deacon Board Member, Vice-President of the Brotherhood Department, Vice-President of the Choir & Choir Member, and leader of the Teen Youth Group.
Allowing God to equip and qualify him for the call to the Word Ministry – he continued his studies in the “Ministerial – Christian Worker Training Class” and graduated with honors as valedictorian. This course was held by the District of Columbia, Delaware, and Maryland District Council of the PAW, Inc., under the direction of Diocesan Bishop Thomas W. Weeks, Sr. In November 1999, while attending this course, God led him to fellowship with Praise Temple Pentecostal Church, under the leadership of Elder Samuel Riley (Pastor). Because of his obedience to God, he was given a direct promotion to minister at Praise Temple Pentecostal Church. While serving there, he was the Minister of Music and the Sunday School Director. Elder Riley ordained him as an Elder in January 2001, and then he continued on to become a Pastor in March 2001.
Simultaneously, while assigned to the Pentagon and Church Outreach Ministry, Pastor Gilcreast was granted permission through the Chaplain’s Office from 1999 – 2004, he taught Bible Study and Christian principles to many believers. Then, God blessed Pastor Michael Gilcreast with the vision for the creation of the HIGHER HOPE APOSTOLIC CHURCH (effective on January 1, 2018 — formerly: New Life Praise & Deliverance Church). In November 2008, he was ordained to the “Office of Bishop” by Bishop William Thompson, Jr., of Greater Praise Temple, Woodbridge, VA. Bishop Michael Gilcreast, is currently serving in Charles Town, WV (formerly at Sterling, VA for five years & Leesburg, VA for eight years), since November 2014. Also, Bishop Gilcreast taught Bible Studies at the Pentagon Annex, from July 2009 – October 2010. Currently (since January 2013) and once again, with many requests, Bishop Gilcreast is teaching Bible Study at the Pentagon and the class is called the “Hour of Power.” Bishop Gilcreast is a member of the American Legion post #34, Leesburg, VA, and holds the office of Chaplain, since May 2006. Finally, in August 2016, Bishop Gilcreast is a member of the Apostolic Faith Fellowship International (A.F.F.I.) and holds the elect office of Non-Diocesan Bishop.
If you were to ask, “What kind of man is Michael Gilcreast?” There can only be one reply. “He is an anointed man of God, ready, willing, and able to do God’s work. He is a family man, a man after God’s own heart, a man of prayer and definitely, a man of faith — he loves to serve God’s people! Bishop Gilcreast is truly a servant of God.”
He is happily married to the former Melody Sutton. They are the blessed parents of Michael Jones and Michael Gilcreast II, also with grandchildren and many God-children.
